This glasshouse was established in 2002 to grow and market Capsicum and Tomatoes. Gourmet Mokai is a joint venture with two New Zealand Maori trusts, utilising naturally occurring underground geothermal steam for heating.
The Capsicums and Tomatoes are grown under glass using a hydroponic type method. Each plant is individually fed with water and fertiliser. Growth is further enhanced by heating the glasshouse.
The temperature, humidity and light intensity are continually monitored by a computer system.
The growing environment that the computer system monitors is formulated by the production manager.
